The old fort is located on the entrance of the Niagara River in Fort Erie. It was important during the War of 1812 and was the site of the bloodiest battle during the war and in the history of Canada. The 1866 Fenian Raids were the impetus for the Canadian Confederation so this area played a pivotal role in the creation of Canada.

Fort Erie is open during the summer for guided tours and there are reenactments of the Fenian Raids (June) and the Siege of Fort Erie (August). For those people traveling with young children, there is a playground in the park.
